To mark German Language Week (19th to 24th January), we’ve put together a series of exciting resources that highlight the rich culture of German-speaking countries. From music, artists and iconic films to vibrant festivals, these resources offer a glimpse into the best of German-language entertainment. These materials are designed for teachers to engage their pupils and help them explore the diversity of German-speaking regions.
We have created 5 resources, one for each day of the German Language Week!
German Art Gallery Walk:
Display the following art prints around the classroom, or project them on the board, pupils may either move around the room to view the artworks or remain seated and observe them from their desks.
Click the images below to download and print, then each pupil selects one of the artworks that interests them and completes the task below.
The artworks are by Paul Klee, Caspar David Friedrich, and Franz Marc.
German Festival Passport:
Pupils embark on a journey, completing their passport by learning about and ‘visiting’ famous German festivals and events.
German Film Review:
Watch a selected short film and then do the activities to look at themes and characters.

Create your own festival for a German speaking area or country
Festivals are about identity. If you could create a festival for a German speaking area or country, what would it celebrate? You are part of a German speaking festival committee. Your job is to design a festival that is fun, colourful and completely unique. Think about music, food, costumes, games and special activities.
