“Languagenut is an invaluable app for little and often vocabulary learning. From a teacher perspective it is easy to monitor pupil progress and time spent; to set up competitions and to encourage independent learning via the easily accessible exam-board compatible activities. There is a vast amount of pre-loaded lists of vocabulary / verbs; grammar and exam-skill tasks but it is also very quick and straightforward to create your own content. The self-marking nature of the app removes any need to mark homework and pupils get instant feedback and opportunity to redo. As a parent, I love being able to see which tasks my year 9 son has completed and being able to easily identify which practice tasks would help him to close knowledge gaps or improve breadth and accuracy of language. Pupils tell me they appreciate that they can access the app on the go in down time such as on the bus; waiting for friends etc and this helps it to feel more manageable as an out of classroom commitment. The impact on language retention and confidence is significant. I wouldn’t be without it!”

“We absolutely love using Languagenut at our school and set weekly homework for Years 7-11. We have found being able to customise the content to match our own knowledge organisers super helpful. “I think that it has different activities – they are fun. It appeals to all people. It develops our skills and builds up your Spanish skills. It helps you revisit vocabulary and the word building/sentence tasks really help with learning a new language. If you are new to a language, it starts at an easier level to help you to start. “I used this for my MFL club and it was great for leading the session. The range of activities, competitions and points they can earn inspire pupils to have a go at home. All of our children in KS2 have a log in so they can access it on many devices at school and at home. It’s easy to set the tasks and you can also create sheets and flash cards in many languages. We were lucky to have the first year free and are really excited to continue its use for another year. A great resource.”
“We are all really enjoying our subscription to Languagenut. We particularly enjoyed the competition against the different schools and were thrilled to end up in 4th place. In fact, today we handed out our special prizes for the top five students as well as certificates to our top 100 Languagenut students.
In addition, the students recently completed a Languagenut quiz on topic areas we had covered in lesson, and it was great to get real time results so individuals quickly see if they are red, amber, or green. I rewarded anyone who had a ‘green’ result with positive points. This makes the programme very motivational and that is exactly what we need in our lessons. “I like using Languagenut, and find it very helpful. I like that vocabulary is introduced in different topics and there are texts to practice the vocabulary as well. Some pupils like to learn vocabulary with visuals and play games; some enjoy building sentences using fridge magnets; some find grammar practice helpful as well. With older pupils, I like using Exams skills, which is great for comprehension check, for speaking practice and even writing. To build better writing skills, I ask my pupils to copy the text that suits them most but change some information to tell about themselves. It works great for practicing beginner sentences, connectives, grammatical structures, word order and vocabulary itself.”

I had half-forgotten that we were still in a trial period, such has been the success of Languagenut to date. It’s a real hit with both students and staff -everyone’s really bought into it, and it has a high profile in the school with weekly prize competitions and league tables in operation for highest performing student in each year group, plus end of half-term prizes for best student and class overall. The support offered by Dan has also been excellent, and is appreciated. It would be difficult to imagine the department without Languagenut now!

“We have used Languagenut for a number of years. We find it particularly useful as a platform for Languages homework, as we can set a range of different activities (grammar, vocabulary, phonics) for students to practise at home. Students are engaged with the platform and I genuinely believe that it is a key factor in our improved exam results and uptake at KS4. The ‘exam skills’ section is very helpful for students in gaining confidence ahead of their GCSEs. Staff find the platform easy to use and navigate, and while they do not have to spend time marking homework, it is quick to see where students are making errors. At a whole school level we use the EAL content to support our new arrivals with limited English, and often see them practising their vocabulary at lunchtimes. We are also excited about the new ‘AI’ function which we feel will further support our students.”

Q. What was the primary reason for renewing your subscription?
A. It has been hugely beneficial in increasing teacher subject knowledge and confidence. All staff have log ins and use it to help them improve (non-specialists). The children have really enjoyed it. I have just completed my Middle leadership project which explored strategies for increasing teacher confidence in Languages and impacting on outcomes for children and have found the introduction of Languagenut to have been pivotal in the success of this as attainment has increased significantly across the school so thank you.
Q. How has Languagenut added value to your school, classroom, or teaching?
A. It has added interactivity and higher levels of interest and engagement in lessons. We have a whole school weekly competition which I am able to track children on ranking list. Languagenut has been great in lockdowns allowing us to continue providing our curriculum coverage.
I am just SO IMPRESSED with Languagenut. It is IN-CRED-I-BLE. I just simply love it. You have great ideas, whether for reading, speaking, listening or writing. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this program. And, more importantly, so do my students. It is simply — Brillant. Wonderful. Amazing. Incredible. I have been teaching for 42 years, and Languagenut is simply the best resource I have found. I regularly use about 15 different programs to work on skill development, but if I had to keep just one, it would be Languagenut.
Languagenut fills a huge void in addressing the need for students to practice each of the four skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – and at more than one challenge level. The games are fun – I got caught up testing them and played for four hours. It allows for students to practice speaking while having fun thanks to games such as Skyrise and Speech Practice. The listening exercises feature a variety of voices, of different sexes, and the little snail button that allows students to slow the recording down makes them VERY happy. Word Pop and Tic-Tac-Toe are their current favorites.
My students are still “catching up” from having been online during part of the covid confinement. Languagenut allows me to assign certain exercises or resources to part of the class who need to catch up while at the same time assigning more challenging work to students who excel. For example, yesterday, I assigned Jigsaw and Verb Matcher to student trying to remember what to do with an “er” verb like “jouer” while others went on to practice speaking, writing and reading.
The site is organized logically and intuitively, with a top tool bar and the buttons Exam Skills, Vocab Trainer, Grammar & Verbs and Sentence Building on the left side of the page. Not only is there a huge amount of readily available content on a wide variety of topics, but teachers can add their own customized content quite easily. I am still exploring, but to-date have found excellent lesson plans (!), story books and songs. The songs are especially cool because you can use them Karaoke-style!
I am looking forward to seeing how Languagenut continues to evolve. Thank you so much, Languagenut. You make every teacher’s life better.
Just to say that I am in one of our schools where Arabic is taught by a non specialist and there is nothing but praise about how helpful it is for them to have Arabic content in Languagenut. It is fantastic for the department to be able to set similar tasks for French, Spanish AND Arabic and the support your platform provides for this teacher (and her pupils) is invaluable.
In my opinion Languagenut fits all the criteria to be the best product available for KS3 and KS4 MFL. Customer Service is the best you can wish for. Every suggestion we have made as a school has been incorporated as a New Feature and our staff constantly get personalised training on demand. They reply to queries immediately and are always willing to include new lists of vocabulary provided to them.
To top it all off Languagenut is reasonably priced compared to competing products. It has been very useful for online learning, as pupils can practice the four attainment targets for each topic and even take tests on every skill. I really recommend it as Languagenut staff always go above and beyond to satisfy their customers.”
Having subscribed to This is Language for many years and feeling quite limited by what it offered, and the age groups it could be used with, I was delighted to be introduced to Languagenut.
Here was a website which was accessible to all ages of learners in fun, interactive ways and in all four skill areas. Our new learners particularly enjoy learning vocabulary with Word Pop, whereas our GCSE classes are able to be set homework tasks based on the curriculum we are following and with different levels of difficulty. I am looking forward to the A Level resources being rolled out.
I was particularly delighted with the cost too: I felt This is Language was too expensive for what it offered, but now I have all languages in my department on board, we are able to subscribe to Languagenut for a price we think is reasonable and competitive.
I would like to say a big thank you to you and your team for supporting my Director team and our academies as we move into our second term of using Languagenut.
We first came across Languagenut when one of my staff alerted us to how useful she was finding it in the classroom. Languagenut has been a fantastic addition to the language learning at De Lacy. The pupils are constantly asking where they are ranked ad are fully engaged with this software. It complements what we do in class brilliantly and as a teacher it is easy to track. Pupils say it makes learning languages interactive and fun and it is easy to use.

Languagenut is the most complete digital language resource that combines the features of Linguascope, Vocab Express and Pearson Active Learn plus a whole lot more under one platform. Languagenut offers better content, more flexibility and engages our students.
The ability to assign work to students and the Exam Revision area are great features they save us hours of time every week. The platform allows me to give written and audible feedback to my students including the only resource with spontaneous speech practice as homework has been a revelation.

St Anselm’s School Canterbury has just started using Languagenut and the students are loving it. One of the best features is that students can record themselves speaking and the teacher can give verbal feedback correcting accents etc. Brilliant!
